Severance Hospital was founded in 1885 as Korea’s first Western-style hospital, Gwanghyewon (Jejungwon), founded by Dr. H.N. Allen, and has been striving to improve public health as a leading hospital in Korea’s medical field.

Severance Hospital seeks to improve the quality of medical care through specialization of treatment for the first time in Korea, and operates specialized centers and cancer clinics such as rehabilitation hospitals, cardiovascular hospitals, ophthalmic hospitals, children’s hospitals, emergency medical centers, and international medical centers. In addition, we are striving to improve medical services such as the declaration of the Patient’s Bill of Rights (1993) and the International Medical Institution Evaluation (JCI) certification.
